Route instructions

[1] Go through the gates in the car park to enter the Nature Reserve and turn left after the second gate.

[2] Follow this gravelled path for a distance.

Take care as there will be livestock roaming through the Nature Reserve.

[3] There will be an obvious path on your right leading straight downhill through the heather (opposite is another footpath leading up to the road). Follow this path downhill until it goes around to the right. Follow the path further.

Take care going downhill as it is quite steep.

[4] Follow the grassy and obvious path for a distance. After a while you will see a pond a bit further away on your left.

Take care as the path might be muddy at times.

[5] Shortly after passing the pond, there is a wooden post on your left and a path leading uphill on your right. Follow the path uphill as it leads you through the heather.

[6] You will soon get to a junction of paths. Turn right to follow the path further uphill.

[7] After a while, you will reach another path junction. Turn right again and when you reached the top, turn left to retrace your steps to the starting point.

The Nature Reserve in Hedleyhope offers great outdoor activities! The Durham Wildlife Trust has organised a watch group for this particular Nature Reserve. Young members benefit from exciting activities like pond-dipping, wildlife safaris or woodland wanders. Of course, Hedleyhope Fell offers a great variety for walkers and runners! The Community Association of East Hedleyhope not only manages the Nature Reserve but also runs social activities in the village hall.
