When you reach Darlington Building Society on your left, cross the street at the pedestrian crossing. Once you have crossed the road you will see an information board in front of you titled ‘Theatre Corner’, you will also see a small plaque on the wall to the right of the information board and to your left you will see the statue of ‘Stan Laurel’.

[2] Continue walking straight ahead on Newgate Street. On your way you will pass many shops and stores. Follow the street for a while. At the end of Newgate Street, bear right and turn onto the Market Place with the Town Hall. Continue on walking down Market Place and soon in front of you will be the archway leading to Auckland Castle.

To enter Auckland Castle you will need to cross over the road and then head towards the stone archway.

Take care as this road might be busy at times.

[3] As you head towards the grounds you should have cream-coloured houses on the left of you and the stone archway will be in front of you. You should go through the stone archway and head towards the castle.

Take care as this road has no pavement.

[4] As you continue you will see a sign saying ‘Auckland Castle Chapel & Grounds’ to the left of you and a sign for the park in front of you. You should continue on forwards to get to the park. Discover and enjoy the various footpaths through the park.

As you exit the grounds you should head for the stone archway, go under it and walk past the cream-coloured houses. When you get to the road you should cross over and stay on the street to the left (one way street).

[5] As you continue down Market Place you will go past Chang Thai Restaurant on your left and St Anne’s Centre will be on your right. You should proceed forwards past Connexions on your left and the taxi rank on your right. Keep following this path as it bends round to the left onto Newgate Street. Just past Nat West on your right is an information board which you may like to read labeled ‘Merchants and Bishops’. You should continue on walking down Newgate Street passed Longstaff’s Family Baker and Coffee Shop until you get back to the Darlington Building Society.

[6] Cross the road and follow Newgate Street to retrace your steps to get back to the Four Clocks Centre which will be on your right.
