Route instructions

[1] Leave Fulforth Centre and turn right onto Front Street. Turn immediately right into Charlaw Terrace and walk past the Fulforth Centre on your right.

[2] Keep to your right and walk down Charlaw Terrace. At the end of the street, bear right and then right again heading on the track through the trees. Horses will be in a field to your left.

Take care. This area may be muddy at some times.

[3] Walk to pass through the large concrete blocks and then follow this track forwards all the way to the end of the track passing two more concrete blocks. This track as it ends will bring you out on a small side road. Once on the road turn right and pass by the car scrap yard which will be on your left.

[4] At the end of this side road you will reach another road which you should cross over and keep heading forwards to follow the next public footpath.

[5] Just after the second set of red gates on the empty building to your left you should turn right passing through two small metal barriers and some more concrete blocks. Follow the gravelled path around.

[6] So far along the gravelled path when the path looks as if it splits you should stay left on the darker gravelled path. Keep walking and after a short while the path will split once again, this time you should take the path which bears right over a small bridge and follow this track uphill.

[7] After a short time the track will split 3 ways, at this point you should keep forwards and walk to a wooden style which you should cross over then head forwards passing two concrete bollards then another two concrete bollards, this will lead you to the main road.

[8] At this point you should cross over the road in front of you and turn right to walk back towards Sacriston. Follow this path for a distance with the main road to the right of you.

Take care when walking along the road.

[9] Keep walking all the way back along Front Street and when you are opposite the Fulforth Centre cross over and return back to the start.

Sacriston has a cricket team and two football teams - Sacriston Working Mens Club FC and Sacriston Colliery Cricket Club FC. Sacriston community football club is very much community based. The club badge shows the colliery on which the village was built. It was established in 2009 with one team. Today, they have more than 150 young people playing and have their own girls team. The club secured a place in the FA Youth Partnership scheme, making them the 7th north east team to be taken on board.
