Route instructions

[1] Start your walk from Crook Market Square. Walk down New Road with the Community Centre and Post Office to your left. Cross Glenholme Drive and follow New Road further.

[2] When New Road bears right, keep left walking in a forwards direction down the footpath. Then at the end of the path turn left.

[3] Cross over the small upcoming road, then turn right to cross over the main road at the pedestrian island.

Be careful when crossing this road.

[4] Follow the path forwards then just before "Winning Lines Limited" on your left, you should cross over the road to your right and keep heading in the same direction. Look for the public footpath sign coming up on your right and take this path.

[5] Keep going on this path and at a T junction in the path you should turn left and follow the path around.

[6] At the end of the footpath cross the road in front of you and follow the public footpath sign which will be slightly to the right of you. Follow the footpath over the grassy area and continue going forwards ignoring the path to your left.

[7] Keep walking on the path and at a crossroads in the path you should keep heading forwards. As you are walking the path will continue up a slight incline.

[8] At the end of the path at the main road you should turn right to walk down the pavement. Cross over 'Thistle Flat Road' and keep walking down the path towards the roundabout. As you are walking you should cross over any housing estates roads you come to and you should cross the road just before the roundabout and follow the path around with the roundabout on your left.

[9] Follow the pavement around with the main road on your left and cross over 'McMillan Drive' then just after you should cross over the main road to your left at the upcoming pedestrian island.

[10] Once you have crossed the road you should turn right and follow the path along with the main road to your right.

[11] Just after a red 'dog waste' bin, you should take the path to your left through the wooden gate. Follow the track down with a metal fence on your right and a field to your left.

[12] Follow the path around and at the exit turn left and walk down a short while until you reach New Road again. Turn left into New Road and retrace your steps back to the Market Square.

Crook has a 'Crook & District Athletic Club' which is very popular and welcoming. They take part in various races e.g. on the track or cross-country. The club is based at Peases West Sports Ground, located on the northern outskirts of Crook.
