Getting there

Parking is available at and around the Community Centre. This route is also accessible via public transport. From Chester-le-Street, take Go North East bus no. 71, 78, 885, 886 or 887.

Route instructions

[1] Exit the Community Centre entrance and turn left along Front Street.

[2] Just past the Warriors Arms opposite a bus shelter, turn left down Cambridge Drive (signed Weardale Way). Where the road bears left, continue straight ahead down a track signed Public Footpath.

[3] At the end of the first field, turn left along the hedge.

[4] At the end of this field turn right alongside the hedge.

[5] When you have reached Cocken Lane, continue along the Lane for 40m and then turn left over a stile and follow a winding path through a new plantation and up a hill to reach a fence.

[6] Follow the fence to the left and go through a gap when approaching a field boundary. Continue along in the same general direction with the fence and hedge on your left towards a large ash tree.

[7] 50m after the tree, turn left through a gap in the fence next to a stile, and follow a narrow path as it bears left into a plantation. After 100m, take a left fork in the path and follow this path as it goes towards the housing in Great Lumley.Cross a track and continue over another field to the edge of the housing estate and then continue straight ahead with the estate on your left.

[8] Exit onto Front Street at the east end of Great Lumley and turn left along the road back to the Community Centre.

A - Lumley Community Centre

The Lumley F.C. is training at the Community Centre. The club was formed in July 1991 and was formerly known as Lumley Moor Snooker Club. The club has a women’s football team and even has over 100 players from age 7! The Lumley Ladies F.C. was the first team playing in the First Division North of the North East Regional Women’s Football League. The mascot of the club is ‘Paul the octopus’.

The Community Centre offers more than football! Enjoy a fun game of bowling or visit the boxing club! Lumley recently opened a boxing club for girls and boys from the age of 11. This vibrant Community Centre is a great start for physical activity!
